A recent filing with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) signals at the possibility of launch of yet another smartwatch from Sony – this time one that feature both NFC and Bluetooth.
The filing doesn’t provide much details except that the device bears a model number SWR10 and is called “BT Wrist Notifier” and that it supports NFC and Bluetooth. The filing doesn’t include any images either so we are not sure how the smartwatch will look. The serial number of the current ‘wrist’ device is a lot similar to SW2 model number that Sony has used for its SmartWatch 2.
Sony launched SmartWatch 2 back in October and it featured a waterproof design with a 1.6-inch display with 220 x 176 pixel resolution. Sony has already gained FCC’s approval meaning that it will launch the smartwatch soon and will probably surface either during CES or MWC 2014.
So probably SmartWatch 3, this time with a large scale marketing effort behind it. Similar to what Samsung did.
Sony seem to be 2-3 generations ahead of everyone else in the Smartwatch category.
