Nokia has announced a trio of new Asha phones in the India – Asha 500, 502 and 503 – alongside Lumia 1320 and Lumia 525, which will be available for purchase starting next January.
Nokia’s decision of launching three new Asha phones in India comes at a time when Microsoft’s acquisition of the Finnish company is just a stone throw away. The new Asha phones will strengthen Nokia’s position in the Indian smartphone market.
Asha 502 is already available for Rs. 5,969 (£60) and packs a three-inch screen protected by Gorilla Glass 2, 5-megapxiel camera, and 2G connectivity. Asha 500 will be available for Rs. 4,499 (£45) while the Asha 503 will carry a price tag of Rs 6,799 (£69). Both the Asha 500 and 503 will be available in-store from January 2014.
Asha 500 packs a 2.8-inch QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) display, runs the new Nokia Asha software platform with Swipe UI, 2-megapixel rear camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM Radio and supports only 2G. Asha 503 on the other hand will feature a 3.0-inch QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) display, run Nokia’s latest Asha software platform v1.1 with Swipe UI, 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and offers 3G data connectivity.
