Only one of its kind ever build, the Lamborghini Gallardo Concept S is heading to the auctions this November in Manhattan, US and is expected to fetch up to $3 million.
Back in 2005, Lamborghini showed off the concept car during the Geneva Motor Show and owing to the immense reception and demand, the auto maker finally created the fully functioning V10 prototype. The static model is still on display at the Lamborghini Museum in Sant’Agata.
The man responsible for the car’s obscure styling is the then head of design at Lamborghini, Luc Donckerwolke. The Concept S prototype features a ‘saute-vent’ instead of a windscreen, split interior, and a retractable rear windscreen. The bodywork is rather radical owing to its bisected the open cockpit, with a pair of low-profile wind deflectors instead of a single-frame windshield.
The automaker had initially considered making a 100 of these cars, but owing to the high cost of manufacturing and the time-consuming process, only one ever left the production line.
The chassis 001 was delivered to its sole owner soon after its 2006 Concorso Italiano reveal and despite it being there for nearly 9 years, it has clocked only 180 kilometres – mostly either in pre-delivery testing, or while slowly traversing immaculate concours lawns.
The unique car will be part of a 30-plus consignment of cars at this November’s second running of RM Sotheby’s Art Automobile auction in New York on November 18 and is expected to fetch between $2,400,000 – $3,000,000.
