Hyundai is recalling approximately 129,000 2015 Sonatas in the US owing to a problem with the front passenger seat belt buckles, which the company says may jam when belt “tongue” is inserted into the buckle forcibly at an angle.
According to a short press release statement, the recall is applicable to all Sonatas that were built beginning April 25, 2014 through December 4, 2014. Hyundai has said that it has already notified NHTSA of a safety recall and all those cars affected with the problem will either get a free repair or replacement, which should take just about an hour.
“In some cases, if the front passenger seat belt “tongue” is inserted into the buckle forcibly at an angle, the buckle may jam, preventing the front passenger from fastening the seat belt”, notes Hyundai in the press note. “The front passenger’s seat belt warning lamp will illuminate if the front passenger seat belt is not buckled while the seat is occupied.”
The automaker notes that none of the other seat belt buckles are affected. The company added that it has not received any reports of any injuries because of this fault.
