CyanogenMod Installer has been removed from Play Store after Google claimed that the app was in violation of Terms of Service and warned the team of administrative action.
Launched in the middle of November, the CyanogenMod Installer provides a no hassle one touch method of installing CyanogenMod firmware on an Android device. Having seen hundreds of thousands of installations, the CyanodgenMod installer is in demand and show how users are looking for alternatives to the preloaded operating system. Users can still install the app using ‘sideloading’.
“we were contacted by the Google Play Support team to say that our CyanogenMod Installer application is in violation of Google Play’s developer terms”, notes CyanogenMod team in a blog post.
“They advised us to voluntarily remove the application, or they would be forced to remove it administratively. We have complied with their wishes while we wait for a more favorable resolution.”
When the CyanogenMod team reached out to Google for explanation of their email, Google revealed “though application itself is harmless, and not actually in violation of their Terms of Service, since it encourages users to void their warranty’, it would not be allowed to remain in the store.”
The team has revealed that it is working with Amazon and Samsung to get the app listed in their respective app stores.
