Google has confirmed it is planning to include a buy button on its search-result pages in the future.
This means Google’s search results will start to show up a buy button when people search for certain products. On clicking the buy button, shoppers will be directly taken to a Google product page where they can choose among sizes and colors, select shipping options and make the purchase.
“There is going to be a buy button, it is actually imminent,” said Omid Kordestani, Google’s chief business officer, speaking at a technology conference on Wednesday.
Kordestani also said that the main aim of introducing the buy button is to streamline the searching and online buying process through Google.
While Kordestani confirmed the search giant’s plan to add a Buy button, he did not reveal any details on how or when the buy button will begin to show up in search results.
It seems with the new move the search giant is trying to turn into a one-stop shop where consumers can directly buy whatever they want. Furthermore, introduction of the new feature would also encourage internet users to spend more time on Google’s own pages, as opposed to other rival websites.
Last month, online retailer Amazon launched a new hardware dubbed the ‘Dash Button’ which allows Prime members to instantly order for home and kitchen products by just pushing a button.
The exact date when Google will launch its “buy” button isn’t clear yet.
Earlier this month, Google also rolled out new “place an order” feature which lets U.S. customers order fast food directly from their search results.
