Facebook is testing a new feature that will show up critics’ reviews of certain U.S. restaurants on their Facebook pages.
The social network has collaborated with five established publications – Bon Appetit, Conde Nast Traveler, Eater, New York magazine and the San Francisco Chronicle to source professional reviews.
The ‘Critic Reviews’ section will be placed above user reviews and will include images and a short description too. The reviews will be displayed along with starred reviews from friends as well as other Facebook users. Users can also read the full detailed review on the publisher’s website by clicking on the link.
“Since reviews are such an important part of helping people make informed decisions about what to do locally, we’re excited to be incorporating a new way for people to use Facebook to find the best real-world experiences,” a Facebook spokeswoman told the Verge.
Although the exact restaurants that have been included in this pilot aren’t detailed, the spokeswoman did reveal that there are thousands of them.
Facebook claims that unlike user-generated reviews, restaurant owners will not be able to flag reviews. The social networking giant said it picked appropriate publishing partners and will result to an accurate review for the restaurant.
