Sony’s highly anticipated selfie smartphone dubbed ‘Sony Xperia C4’ is now finally official.
Successor to the selfie-focused Xperia C3, the Xperia C4 features a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) IPS display, 64-bit MediaTek MTK6752 SoC with 1.7GHz octa-core CPU and Mali 760 MP2 GPU, coupled with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory which can be further expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.
The smartphone packs a 5-megapixel snapper upfront with Exmor R image sensor and LED flash as well as a 13-megapixel autofocus camera with image stabilizer, HDR, 4x digital zoom, and 1080p video recording capabilities. On the software front, the Xperia C4 runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box with Sony’s custom UI on top of Google’s OS.
There’s a non-removable 2,600mAh battery which the maker claims will deliver up to 12 hours and 47 minutes of talk time and 682 hours of standby time on a single charge. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, A-GPS, NFC and a microUSB port with USB OTG and USB tethering support. The device is also equipped with Sony’s 3D Surround Sound technology along with Clear Audio+, Clear Bass and xLOUD experience.
The Xperia C4 measures 150.3 x 77.4 x 7.9mm and weighs 147 grams. Unfortunately, the Xperia C4 isn’t water resistant, but it is ‘scratch resistant’ at least.
Announcing the new smartphone, Tony McNulty, Vice-President of Value Category Business Management at Sony Mobile Communications, said “Following the success of Xperia C3, we are proud to introduce Sony’s evolved PROselfie smartphone.”
“Xperia C4 caters to consumers that want a smartphone that not only takes great photos, but also packs a punch. Benefiting from Sony’s camera expertise, the 5MP front-facing camera with 25mm wide-angle lens lets you capture perfect selfies, while its quality display and performance features provide an all-round advanced smartphone experience.”
Sony has confirmed that the Xperia C4, along with the dual-SIM-equipped Xperia C4 Dual, will go on sale beginning June 2015 in select markets across the world in in black, white and vibrant mint color options. The smartphone maker is yet to reveal the pricing details.
