UK mobile operator Vodafone has release three new Android-powered devices, including the Smart first 6, the Smart Prime 6 and the SmartTab Prime 6.
Vodafone’s new 3G handset, the Smart first 6, is the most affordable of all and costs just £40 on PAYG. The budget device features a 4in WQHD display, 1GHz dual-core processor, Android 4.4 (KitKat) operating system, in-built battery, a 2MP camera, and 4GB storage with onboard microSD slot. There’s no 4G connectivity support.
Next on the list is the Vodafone Smart Prime 6 which boasts a 5in 1280×720 HD screen, which is powered by an unspecified quad-core Qualcomm processor and 1GB RAM. The handset also features an 8MP rear-facing camera with autofocus and flash, a 2MP front-facing camera, 8GB internal storage expandable by 64GB via microSD, 4G LTE support and a battery offering a claimed 16 hours of talk time.
Touted as the “best value 4G smartphone on the market,” the Smart Prime 6 is available for £79 on the company’s Pay as you go plans, or free on contracts from £17 per month. The handset is available to order now in grey and silver color options.
Vodafone also unveiled the SmartTab Prime 6, a 9.6in tablet with a 1280×800 HD IPS screen. The 7.9mm-thick SmartTab Prime 6 is powered by Android 5.0 Lollipop and comes with a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 4G and WiFi connectivity, a 4,600mAh battery offering a claimed 37 days on standby, and 16GB internal storage expandable via microSD by an additional 32GB.
The device is available now for free on contracts starting at £21 per month, or for a relatively reasonable £150 lump sum on pay-as-you-go.
Furthermore, those who buy any of Vodafone’s new devices on supported plans will also own themselves a free Spotify or Sky Sports Mobile subscription.
Vodafone’s launch of the new handsets comes just weeks after rival EE launched two new own-brand smartphones- the Harrier and the Harrier Mini- and two 4GEE wi-fi devices- the Osprey 2 and the Osprey 2 Mini.
Available for £199.99 on pay-as-you-go and free on 4GEE plans from £21.99 per month, the Harrier allows customers to access EE’s 4G network as well as to make calls and send texts over wi-fi.
The compact version of the Harrier handset dubbed ‘the Harrier Mini’ is available for £99.99 on pay-as-you-go and free on 4GEE plans from £16.99 per month.
EE’s 4GEE wi-fi devices dubbed ‘the Osprey 2’ and ‘the Osprey 2 Mini’ provides customers with a 4G mobile internet hotspot, allowing up to 10 devices to connect at any one time.
