New reports suggest Apple’s redesigned Apple TV remote for the upcoming models will feature a built-in touch pad.
According to The New York Times report, citing sources familiar with Apple’s upcoming Apple TV update, the revamped remote for the next set-top box iteration will come with a touchpad for scrolling through content as well as two physical buttons. The remote is expected to be slightly thicker than the current version, which has three buttons and a design that hasn’t changed since day one.
Sources claim that the remote will be of about the same size as the remote for Amazon’s wireless speaker, the Echo. The revamped Apple TV is also expected to include a dedicated App Store and voice controls via Siri, powered by an A8 processor.
The report adds that customers should see the revamped product launch alongside a refreshed Apple TV at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference to be held in in San Francisco next month.
A redesign of the Beats Music service is also expected to be announced at the event, along with previews of iOS 9 and OS X 10.11 and a software development kit for developers to create apps for the set-top box.
