Google has updated its voice search service ‘OK Google’ to add support for custom voice actions for third party apps.
This means that users can now say ‘Ok Google’ even while accessing apps developed by third-party developers to carry out tasks within an app, and navigate using only voice commands.
“Today, we launched our first set of partners for custom Google voice actions on Android. This feature will enable people to say things like ‘Ok Google, listen to NPR’ or Ok Google, show attractions near me on TripAdvisor,” Google announced in a post on Android Developers’ Google Plus account.
Currently, the search giant is testing the feature with limited partners including NPR One, TuneIn, Zillow, Flixster and TripAdvisor.
“We’re currently piloting custom voice actions with a select group of partners, but we plan to open it up more widely in the future,” the blog post noted.
The voice service recognises around nine languages including English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Russian.
Google has listed the third-party apps available to use with “Ok Google” voice search on its support page with voice search command for each app.
In related news, Google also recently expanded Google Now card support for 70 new Android apps, including Spotify, Feedly, Runkeeper, OpenTable, and more.
