Nepal earthquake has been one of the most nasty ones this year with over thousand people already dead and many more injured. Multiple web services have extended different tools to check up on the status of your friends and family and even track your missing ones like Google’s Person Finder and the latest to provide such a service is Facebook.
Facebook has introduced a ‘Safety check’ feature dedicated solely to the Nepal tragedy. The Safety Check feature asks users to update their safety status if the person lives in the affected region. It then generates a notification to let friends of the user known that the person concerned is safe.
This feature allows you to flag your friends as “safe” by using this link https://www.facebook.com/safetycheck/nepalearthquake which would mean that your friend has not been affected by the quake and has been in contact with you.
Facebook would allow you to quickly find and connect with friends in your area and let you know know if each one of them is alright.
Not only that, Facebook will itself determine your location and will ask you to tag your friends safe accordingly and will ask you to flag yourself too. The Safety Check also lists relevant helpline numbers, if you wish to know about your friends/family in Nepal.
The tool sends you real-time notification to let you know,as to which of your friends have been marked safe.
