Sony is up with plans to fix a monthly fee for playing online games on its upcoming PlayStation 4 (PS4) gaming console. The company will be charging a per month fee of $9.99 in the US and €6.99 in Europe for its November launching console, reported the Nikkei business daily without citing any sources for the news.
This move is completely opposite of users’ ability to play multiplayer games for free on PlayStation 3. According to reports, Sony will be charging a monthly fee of 500 yen ($5.00) in Japan where the console is scheduled for a February 2014 debut.
According to Sony Computer Entertainment America spokesperson the $9.99 monthly option was announced by the company in the middle of this year notes Reuters.
Users will be able to opt for an annual membership fee as well for as little as $49.99 (less than $5 a month) instead of the monthly fee confirmed the spokesperson. To make the PS4 more lucrative for the users, Sony also plans to add more social networking functions to the console including an option to chat with fellow players, reported the Nikkei.
