Netflix has teamed up with manufacturers to bring a dedicated ‘Netflix button’ on most remote controls in the UK.
Netflix has collaborated with manufacturers including Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, LG, Toshiba, Haier, Sharp, Vestel and others. The deal will see the OEMs including the Netflix button, which gives direct access to the Netflix television and movie platform, in their new hardware. The remote controls will be included with 2015 and some 2014 product models. Specific models to adopt the new remote-based features are yet to be confirmed.
“The new Netflix button on remotes in Europe makes watching Netflix as easy as changing the channel on traditional TV, allowing viewers to enjoy our great programming much quicker,” Bill Holmes, Netflix’s Head of Business Development said in unveiling the plan.
Neil Hunt, the company’s Chief Product Officer, added “For members who want even more convenience when instantly watching TV shows and movies streaming from Netflix, the answer is about to be right in their hands.”
“No more turning on the TV, going to a home screen and searching for the Netflix icon. With the Netflix one-click remote, it’s simply a matter of pushing the Netflix button to instantly watch any of the vast selection of TV shows and movies available to stream from Netflix.”
It is expected that standalone TV remotes will also be rolled out for existing smart TVs.
