Apple has expanded its in-store trade-in program in the United States, Canada and several European countries to include non-Apple smartphones and PCs as well.
The trade-in-program lets users exchange their old devices to receive store credit that can be used towards the purchase of a new Apple device. In addition to accepting Apple iPhones and iPads, the program now also takes in current and recent Android and Blackberry devices, including recent models from Samsung, LG, Nokia, Sony and HTC, makers of the Nexus series.
The expanded Reuse and Recycling Program is currently running at Apple retail locations in the US, UK, Canada, France, Germany and Italy in partnership with third-party device buyback and trade-in company Brightstar. Cupertino is also accepting various PC models by certain manufacturers as part of its expanded trade-in program, handled by third-party vendor Dataserv.
In related news, Apple has also officially announced the launch of a trade-in program for iPhone and iPad products in China starting from March 31, 2015.
As part of the “reuse and recycling program,” Chinese consumers can exchange their old models of iPhones and iPads to iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and any iPad model which is prior iPad Air 2 at Apple stores in the Chinese mainland. However it is to be noted that the company will only accept units that were officially sold in China, and not in other countries.
