Amazon’s game streaming service Twitch has warned its users of a possible security breach which may have compromised account information including username and password, IP address, login information, limited credit card information as well as personal details such as date of birth and address.
On Monday, Twitch announced that it had expired passwords and stream keys, and disconnected accounts from Twitter and YouTube in an effort to protect users from the hackers.
As a result, users who log on to the site now will be prompted to create a brand new password, and asked to change their passwords on websites in which they use a similar password.
“For your protection, we have expired passwords and stream keys and have disconnected accounts from Twitter and YouTube. As a result, you will be prompted to create a new password the next time you attempt to log into your Twitch account,” the game streaming site noted in its official blog post.
“We also recommend that you change your password at any website where you use the same or a similar password. We will communicate directly with affected users with additional details.”
The blog however did not mention about the scale of the breach, or how many accounts might have been compromised.
Amazon beat off a rival bid from tech giant Google to acquire Twitch for $970m (£650m) last year.
