Millions of Brits are willing to own an Apple Watch, new research claims. According to app creation firm Conjure, one in ten Brits plan to buy an Apple Watch, equating to a total of 8.3 million Apple smartwatches being sold in the U.K.
The survey of 2,000 British adults also measured the factors that would attract consumers towards buying the new smart watch. Around 13 percent of the respondents said that the fashionability of the smartwatch would impact their purchasing decisions, while another 12.45 per cent said battery life of a week or longer would be their main reason for buying a smartwatch.
Among other factors, nearly half of the respondents said that smartwatches that tell the time would be ideal for them, 27.4 percent prioritized accessibiliy features like reviewing texts from their smartwatches, 26.10 per cent preferred navigation, 21.55 per cent said they would want their smartwatch to keep track of appointments and schedules and 19.70 per cent said their smartwatch should allow them to make and receive phone calls.
The respondents, however, were found to be less keen about smartwatches with cameras (13.65 per cent) and smartwatches that connect with other smart devices (10.10 percent) and those that could play music via Bluetooth (11.35 per cent).
Commenting on the research results, Sam Clark, MD of Conjure, said “Our data suggests that the ‘Apple factor’ will make today’s launch the tipping point for the smartwatch market. 8.3m Brits believe they would buy a smartwatch made by Apple – if even half that number actually end up buying a device the product will be hailed as a success in the UK.”
“At the moment, brands with smartwatch apps appear cool and aspirational to consumers – but that ‘smartwatch effect’ is only going to be a short-term thing. In the long-term, brands need apps that complement the limited size and functionality of wrist-borne devices – and make the most of their potential for delivering contextually relevant notifications.”
