BlackBerry has released an updated version of BBM for iOS that fixes the issue which led to the app crashing on iOS devices running iOS 7.0.3.
The issue was primarily because Apple decided to remove the “HelveticaNeue-Italic” font used by BBM from its iOS 7.0.3 update. Users on iPhones with iOS 7.0.3 were affected by this issue.
BlackBerry provided a fix within 24 hours of the first reports of BBM crashes and on top of the bug fix, the new version brings with it features such as contact categories, list sorting and filtering in BBM groups and some performance improvements. The updated version can be downloaded here.
BBM was rolled out on October 22 with Blackberry implementing a queue system to avert any overloading of its servers and repeat last month’s scenario. Within just 24 hours of launch, BlackBerry announced that BBM was downloaded over 10 million times and that it has managed over the top 5-star reviews on Google Play.
On analysis of these reviews we found that there was something fishy going on. Over 60 percent of the reviews had the same text which read, “Thank you so much blackberry team. I was waiting this app. Its really great user friendly and smooth.”
