Recent rumors suggest Twitter is in acquisition talks with live streaming app Periscope, which lets users’ stream video in real time.
According to TechCrunch, the acquisition talks are in early stages and the deal between the two could possibly round up to around $100 million.
Periscope app allows people to stream live video from their smart devices and broadcast it to their followers in real-time. The app works similar to recently launched Meerkat which also allows Twitter users to share video streams in real time. The stream can be triggered with a link in tweet or by a notification to Twitter followers who use the Meerkat app.
Launched just last week, Meerkat has reportedly attracted 15,000 users and steamed approximately 8,000 videos within three days. There were even speculations that Twitter was eyeing to acquire Meerkat app given its popularity.
There are currently no other details on the possible Periscope acquisition. Both Twitter and Periscope are yet to comment on the report.
In related news, Twitter also recently announced that users will now be able to embed Twitter-hosted videos on any supported websites. The feature is located under the “more” prompt and functions in the same way as regular embedding of a tweet.
On clicking the ‘Embed Video’ option, users will see an automatic generated HTML code, which can be used on any supporting website. They will also have the option to select “Include Tweet when logo is clicked” at the time of copy-pasting the HTML code.
