Microsoft is offering 100GB of free OneDrive storage to Dropbox users in order to lure them to its own storage offering.
The announcement was made on Thursday via OneDrive’s official Twitter handle which read “Drop the box – move your photos, music, and docs to #OneDrive and get 100 GB for one year free.”
As part of the promotional campaign all Dropbox users will get 100GB of free OneDrive storage for one year. In order to avail the free OneDrive storage, Dropbox users are required to go to the bonus page to redeem the 100GB storage. The page will first verify the user’s OneDrive and Dropbox accounts.
Once the sign-in process is done, OneDrive will request to add a “Getting Started with OneDrive” PDF file to the user’s Dropbox folder. On adding the PDF file to the user’s Dropbox account, the page will automatically redirect to confirmation page that reads, “Your bonus storage was successfully applied!”
The free 100GB cloud storage is added as “Enthusiast bonus” to the user’s OneDrive account. However if Dropbox users want unlimited OneDrive storage after that, they will need to become paid subscribers of Office 365.
In related news, OneDrive also announced on Thursday that it has turned one.
OneDrive’s Omar Shahine, Group Program Manager, said “I can’t believe it was only a year ago that we launched OneDrive.
“We wouldn’t be anywhere without the hundreds of millions of people that use OneDrive and I wanted to say thank you on behalf of the entire OneDrive team.
“We’ve been working hard to make OneDrive the one place for all of your files, including photos, videos and documents, available across the devices you use every day for work and life.”
