Microsoft, at the launch of Xbox One, had announced that the gaming console will be running three operating systems – the Xbox OS, Windows and another app switching and multitasking software which aids the console to perform different tasks. However, the Xbox One maker never acknowledged if its gaming console cum entertainment hub will support Windows 8 apps.
Dell has however revealed through its new online listing page that users will be have a unified gaming experience as the console will be capable of executing Windows 8 apps and sync with them. If Dell is indeed correct on this, it implies that the gaming console, in addition to being an entertainment hub, it would bring the PC to the user’s living room. Neowin was the first to spot the listing on Dell’s website. Microsoft is yet to make any official comment on the entire matter.
As most of the Windows 8 apps are touch and keyboard optimized, it would result in some additional challenges in text input and app control. SmartGlass apps have also been offered by Microsoft as a second screen controller. So, it seems like users will be able to use their mobile phones to control these apps.
The Khan Academy app was showcased running on an Xbox One console in a demo presentation during the BUILD 2013 keynote. In a way this was a hint the company wanted to give to the users that Windows 8 app can now run on the Xbox One.
The next-generation gaming console from Microsoft will go on sale in 13 countries including Australia, Austria, France, Germany, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Mexico, New Zealand, U.S and U.K. on November 22nd.
Some markets including Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and Switzerland will have to wait till 2014 for Xbox One’s launch as due to issues related to the user interface customizing and software language translation.
