Microsoft has rolled out the entire Office suite including popular Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications for Android tablets. The official launch of Office for Android follows a three-month preview program.
“Similar to Office for Windows 10, Word, Excel and PowerPoint for Android tablets are built from the ground up for touch and are perfect for mobile productivity,” Microsoft noted in a blog post.
Users will require a Microsoft account to create, edit, and print Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files for their personal use for free. However, premium features will require an Office 365 subscription and commercial use will require a subscription for both.
The requirements for downloading the free Office suite for Android include a tablet which has a 7in display or bigger running Android 4.4 or newer with at least 1GB of RAM. Currently only ARM-powered Android tabs can use the Office apps. Native support for Android devices with Intel chips is expected to arrive within a quarter.
Microsoft claims that the iOS version of Office has been downloaded more than 80 million times.
Along with the Office suite, the Redmond has also announced availability for Outlook for iOS and a preview for Android Outlook. The new Outlook apps are identical to email app Acompli and will let users have the same quick access to calendar, contacts, mail and files. The apps will work with Office 365, Exchange, Outlook.com, Yahoo Mail, Gmail and other e-mail services.
The new apps will soon be available for download in their respective app stores.
