Facebook has begun testing a new feature that will let users read transcriptions of the voice messages sent via Facebook Messenger.
The new voice-to-text feature will transcribe the content of a sound clip into text message that will show up just below the voice clip.
Although, the option to listen to the audio clip will still remain, the new feature will offer message recipients a quick way to check voice messages without the need to hit ‘play’.
Introduced way back in 2013, the voice messaging feature enables users to send voicemail-style clips to each other.
The transcription feature will be turned on automatically, but the social networking giant assures that users will be able to disable the feature in case they dislike the transcription service.
David Marcus of Facebook’s messaging team recently posted a screenshot of the new feature announcing that the new feature will let people read the voice clips they receive instead of having to play them aloud.
“Our plan is to test this feature at a tiny scale for now and we’re looking forward to seeing what you think of it before making the experience more widely available,” Marcus noted in the official post.
The feature, currently in testing phase, will be available only to a small number of people before it gets rolled out publicly.
