PC gaming platform Steam has surpassed 8.5 million concurrent users mark on January 2, 2015.
Just last week Steam’s game and player stats page showed users reaching out at 8,357,541 mark. However, it was on Saturday that Steam went on to hit a new record for the most concurrent users, logging upward of 8.5 million users.
As far as individual games are concerned, Dota 2 was the most popular game attracting 875,000 players, followed distantly by Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which peaked out at 360,000 users, Team Fortress 2 at 89,000 users, Football Manager 2015 at 75,000, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim at 66,000 players.
This is not the first time that Steam has crossed the eight million mark- it had 8,020,700 concurrent users logged into the platform during the final day of its annual Summer Sale in June 2014.
Steam announced in September that it had crossed the 100 million native accounts mark, up from the 75 million recorded in January 2013.
In related news, Valve has added a frame rate counter into the Steam Overlay which will let players check how well their games are running without having to depend on third party tools like FRAPS which could hamper overall gaming performance. The new feature is available only if you choose to participate in the Steam Client Beta.
