Google has rolled out new guidelines for Google Play store that forbids developers from including user testimonials in their app descriptions.
As per the new guidelines, developers will be prohibited from including user testimonials, as well as ‘irrelevant keywords’ that don’t have anything to do with the app such as “the best ever”, in their app descriptions.
“Please do not include user testimonials in your app description. They tend to be dubious and are frequently utilized to include references to popular search terms and competitor apps in violation of the policies outlined here. Let your users speak for themselves via Play’s comment review system,” updated guidelines for developers reads.
According to Google, the newly tuned guidelines are aimed at preventing developers from manipulating relevancy rankings on Google Play search results. Those violating the new rule will have their apps pulled from the Play Store.
Recently, Amazon was forced to revamp its all-in-one Amazon app owing to its Amazon Appstore integration as part of Google’s updated Developer Distribution Agreement which now prohibits developers from “using the (Play) Store to distribute or make available any product which has a purpose that facilitates the distribution of software applications and games for use on any Android devices outside of the Store.”
The software giant had confirmed that the Amazon Shopping app, which doesn’t bear the Amazon Appstore for Android integration, has replaced the main Amazon app.
