BT has begun its search for new firms and startups specializing in developing services and apps capable of leveraging high-speed connectivity like fibre-optic broadband connections.
BT launched the new programme in conjunction with TechHub, a London based organization, which offers tech entrepreneurs a workspace to spin out new and innovative tech ideas. Through this programme, BT is looking for new entrepreneurial start-ups with applications and services which can be marketed and sold alongside BT’s existing fibre broadband offerings including the company’s Wi-Fi and fibre-optic Infinity broadband services.
The winning tech start-ups will not be offered any financial support, but will be bestowed with six months’ support by BT, access to the company’s R&D, engineering, legal and marketing department’s assistance. The winning firms will also gain membership and space at TechHub’s East London’s “Tech City” area where they will get space to work, business support and also access to other existing tech entrepreneurs.
According to BT, the main aim of the programme is to search for “apps and services which bring to life BT’s new innovations in the consumer market, including 300mbps broadband and the new Home Hub 5 which makes use of 802.11ac Wi-Fi technology [and] provides up to Gigabit transfer speeds”.
TechHub’s co-founder and CEO, Elizabeth Varley, said that the programme is definitely an “unmissable opportunity” for all the tech start-ups. Further details about the competition and deadlines can be found here.
