Developer Jagex and Transformers owner Hasbro have announced they will close down multi-player PC MMO ‘Transformers Universe’ early next year.
The online action game that lets user play as an Autobot or a Deception will be made to shut down on January 31 at 10 AM (GMT). Originally announced in 2011, Transformers Universe was never given a full release. The game had been running an open beta since July 2014.
Jagex and Hasbro confirmed the news saying “This decision comes at an important time for both companies as they both realign their plans and focuses for 2015.”
“We’re hugely disappointed, but the game will be closing over the coming weeks before its full closure at 10am GMT [5am EST, 2am PST, or 9pm Australian] on 31st January 2015.”
Although the game will continue to run until January 31, 2015, no new accounts can now be not created, nor can relic bundles or starter packs be purchased. The company has promised refunds to players who purchased a Founders Pack, as well as those who bought relic bundles and starter packs. Refund will be processed in the next 30 days.
The announcement mentions that the closure comes as both Jagex and Hasbro are set to realign their businesses for 2015. While Hasbro said that it “intends to pursue alternative digital gaming opportunities” for its Transformers franchise, Jagex said it would focus on its own intellectual property.
“Once again we want to thank all of the players that have played Transformers Universe and all those that have worked on the project,” Jagex said.
“We’re sure you have thoughts and feelings that you’d like to share on this, so please do so on our forums. Please bear in mind that this is obviously a challenging time for all involved, especially the CM team. There will be plenty of things we can’t comment on, so please respect their position.”
