As reported earlier, customers can now trade in their old iPhones and get significant discounts of up to £175 for a new one at the company’s UK retail stores.
Under the scheme Apple Stores will take back old iPhones from customers and offer them discounts to buy new iPhone 5S or 5C, or the iPhone 4S. In an official statement, Apple declared that it is launching a new program that will enable customers to reuse or recycle their old iPhones while helping the environment “customers will be able to receive a credit for their returned phone that they can use toward the purchase of a new iPhone.”
The old handsets will be first assessed against a number of parameters like whether it functions correctly or not; if there is any damage and if the device settings have been reset to factory settings. Based on the condition of the old handset, a price value will be added to an Apple gift card, which can be used to purchase a new iPhone.
The savings will vary widely across the range of Apple handsets. Customers trading the original iPhone [8GB] will get discount of £8, iPhone 3G [8GB] a discount of £5, iPhone 3GS [8GB] a discount of £20, iPhone 4 [16GB] a discount of £100, and the iPhone 5 [32GB] giving a discount of up to £230.
Apple rolled out its ‘iPhone Reuse and Recycling Program’ in the US this August offering customers the benefit of this trade-in scheme.
