Microsoft has revealed details about the upcoming fixes in December Patch Tuesday covering seven security bulletins through an advance notice yesterday.
December’s Patch Tuesday contains half the number of updates as compared to November and the least number is updates since September this year. Out of the seven updates, three are marked critical – Microsoft’s highest rating for a patch – and the rest are marked important.
Next week’s release contains a patch for Exchange, which was originally slated for November release, but was delayed by a month because of discovery of a last minute issue with the installer package for Exchange Server 2013.
One of the critical fixes, rated critical, patches a vulnerability in all the currently supported versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer including version 11 on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1. Microsoft will also patch the browser bundled with Windows 10.
Another update is meant for Microsoft Word 2007 through to Word 2013 on Windows Vista and Windows 7 and Word 2011 on the Mac.
The remaining four updates fixes vulnerabilities in all Windows OS; Exchange Server 2007 through to 2013; supported version of Office; Office Web Apps 2010 and 2013 and SharePoint Server 2010 and 2013.
