BT has released a companion TV mobile app for iOS and Android that will let users access a selection of TV channels, including entertainment, kids and BT Sport channels through their smartphones, tablets and PCs using the TV Everywhere service.
The operator has also updated its ‘buy to keep’ movie service to allow customers watch purchases on their smartphones and tablets. This means that movies bought on a BT TV YouView or Vision+ set top box can now be easily accessed on smartphones, tablets and PCs for free.
In February, BT became the first UK pay-TV operator to let customers purchase movies direct from their set top boxes. BT TV’s buy-to-keep films include many of the latest Hollywood releases and a selection of modern greats and classics from, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Entertainment One UK, NBCUniversal and Disney.
Although streaming via the app is restricted to UK users only, brits travelling abroad can download films to their device for off-line viewing to ensure buffer-free viewing experience.
Customers are allowed to link four mobile products to their account, but each film can only be downloaded to a single device at a time. Downloaded content will remain accessible even if the user terminates their BT contract, but they won’t be able to re-download films deleted from their device.
BT TV director Alex Green said, “BT TV was the first TV platform to offer buy-to-keep movies. Now we’re the first to offer these movies digitally on multiple devices.
“We believe customers will increasingly choose digital ownership given its freedom and flexibility and the ability to create your own personal movie library.
“Meanwhile our TV Everywhere service allows families to enjoy some of their favorite channels around the home and on the move.”
