For decades it has been believed that Apple has its origin in founder Steve Jobs’ parents garage, but now co-founder Steve Wozniak has something else to reveal.
In a recent interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, Wozniak revealed the famous “Apple garage” is nothing but a myth. Yes! you read it right, the garage in which Apple was born isn’t totally real.
“The garage is a bit of a myth. We did no designs there, no breadboarding, no prototyping, no planning of products. We did no manufacturing there. The garage didn’t serve much purpose, except it was something for us to feel was our home. We had no money. You have to work out of your home when you have no money,” this is what Wozniak said exactly.
Wozniak said that the garage served as a familiar location for both the Apple co-founders in the early days, but that’s about it, rather the actual work was being done at his Hewlett-Packard cubicle in Cupertino. He went on to say that Apple quickly outgrew the garage.
“There were hardly ever more than two people in the garage and mostly they were sitting around kind of doing nothing productive,” Wozniak added.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, the 61-year-old house located in Silicon Valley at 2066 Crist Drive in Los Altos, which was also Jobs’ childhood home, was designated the “historic resource” title in 2013 by the Los Altos Historical Commission.
It will be interesting to note if Wozniak’s latest revelation will have any effect on the house’s historical status.
