Apple’s updated App Store Distribution page shows its mobile operating system iOS 8 is currently running on 60 per cent of active iOS devices.
According to the updated pie chart showcasing on Apple’s developer portal, which indicates iOS distribution, iOS 8’s predecessor, iOS 7, is now used on 35 per cent of devices, and earlier versions of iOS are now running on just 5 per cent.
The new figures indicate a minor increase in iOS 8 adoption numbers as compared to Apple’s last adoption figures published earlier this month. As of November 10, Apple reported 56 percent of active iOS devices were running iOS 8, while 40 per cent were on iOS 7, and 5 percent on previous versions.
Released in September, Apple’s iOS 8 OS was reported to have been running on 46 per cent of devices in initial few weeks of its release. However, in October, the OS adoption had virtually halted at 47 per cent, following the botched iOS 8.0.1 update that accidentally disabled cellular connectivity and Touch ID operation on iPhone 6 and 6 Plus handsets. The Cupertino tried to fix all the flaws with the latest iOS 8.1.1 update.
Interestingly, Apple’s iOS 8 took just three months to power the majority of active iOS devices as compared to Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat version which took almost 11 months to reach 24.5 per cent of the worldwide users.
