Yahoo with its acquisition of Bread has added one more company to its long list of acquisitions this year.
Bread, an ad tech and a URL shortening service, allowed users / companies to create billboard ads to promote products, services or a worthy cause. Users made money through the ad spots which other users would see when they clicked through a link which used Bread’s URL shortening service.
Announcing the acquisition Bread CEO Alan Chan informed that they will be joining Yahoo’s advertising team in Sunnyvale and will be working with the Yahoo’s team on “next-generation solutions for social and mobile publishers and advertisers.”
As a result of the acquisition, Bread has shuttered its core publishing products – Bread Social and Bread Oven effective immediately. Bre.ad URL shortening service will also be buried; however, Chan noted that the links will be active for 30 days and users should switch to other similar services.
According to reports Bread was itself looking for a buyer because the company was reportedly low on funds. Yahoo could finally see revenue flowing in from its online properties. Bread has a team of ten employees and Yahoo has confirmed that six consisting of engineers and product managers will be joining its advertising technology team.
