OnePlus recently took to its Weibo account to tease its second-generation flagship smartphone, rumored to be dubbed as OnePlus Two.
“The theory of evolution applies to all things in the world, including technological devices, so stayed tuned!” the teaser post read.
The post was even accompanied by an image with the tagline, “It’s time to evolve.”
Although the smartphone maker did not choose to reveal much information about the upcoming smartphone, a new Business Insider report, citing sources familiar with the situation, claims the alleged OnePlus 2 will be “more customizable” than the first-generation model; cheaper than rival off-contract Android phones, and will pack a ‘big surprise’ in store with the hardware.
Sources suggest that the new smartphone is expected to get released with customizable StyleSwap back covers in different materials such as wood, denim, and Kevlar.
According to the report, the upcoming smartphone is also touted to be a mid-range one with an estimated price tag of less than $500 (£319) off contract, since the company wants to keep its margins thin even with significant hardware improvements.
Furthermore, the report suggests that the alleged OnePlus One sequel will likely come with surprises in hardware, although details about the exact specifications are not available as of now.
The next-generation OnePlus One smartphone is expected to arrive sometime in early 2015.
