Apple is set to roll out its iPhone trade-in scheme in the UK and has reportedly starting preparing training material for its British retail staff to handle such trade-ins.
Apple iPhone trade-in scheme has been live since August in the US. Under the scheme an iPhone owner is required to walk into an Apple store and present their iPhone to one of the Apple Store staff members. Apple Store employee will then inspect the iPhone to check for hardware and water damages and the screen quality. The Apple employee will then ask a series of questions to the owner in a bid to determine and understand the extent of damage caused to the device.
Under this scheme, Apple may offer anywhere between £90 and £150 for a 16GB iPhone 4 and 4S handsets. An iPhone 5 owner is likely to receive as much as £180 if the phone is in good condition. These are just initial pricing and they may change depending after Apple rolls it out across the board.
The owners, however, will not be able to receive cash in lieu of the iPhone and will instead be given an Apple gift card of equivalent amount. The gift card can then be used to purchase a new iPhone and the program is only applicable if the person is going to get a new iPhone and not just the gift card.
Apple has already started providing training to a few of its Apple Store personnel and is planning to roll out the service in some of its European stores as well. However, trade-in scheme will likely hit the UK shores first as compared to any other European country.
