Nest Thermostat is going to get a little smarter and faster at what it does as a result of the major software update that Google will be rolling out this week, it has been revealed.
Nest is going to roll out a comprehensive software update that will not only incorporate a smarter learning algorithm and quite a few other features including Enhanced auto-schedule, System Test, easy access to Home or Away modes, among other things.
Turning the outer ring on Next will bring up a menu with each icon showing up tiny bits of relevant information providing you with information on how much heat you’ve used recently. You can also set it in Home or Away mode with a simple button press rather than having to dig deeper in the menus to access the option or waiting for Nest to sense that.
The update will bring with it a System Test mode that will allow you to cycle through individual components of your HVAC system to check their status – something that eases the task of diagnosing problems if there are any.
Further, the update will also bring with it the auto-scheduling feature – something that Nest claims will help the thermostat better adapt to changes in how people in your household prefer to set the temperature during the course of the day. The company claims there will be around 6 per cent saving in your heating and cooling bill.
The company hasn’t revealed how quickly the thermostat will learn, but Nest said that the learning abilities of the thermostat are based more on the number of adjustments that a particular user makes instead of the time.
