Apple has acquired cloud networking startup Union Bay Networks and opened up an engineering office in Seattle with at least 30 engineers already working in the area under the tech giant.
According to a report on GeekWire, Apple’s Union Bay acquisition and Seattle office got noticed after former Union Bay Networks co-founder Benn Bollay, who now lists himself as a manager at Apple on LinkedIn, was spotted posting a job opening for a Systems Software Engineer that read “Ever wanted to work at Apple, but didn’t want to live in Cupertino?”
Cupertino later confirmed acquisition of the cloud networking startup to the Seattle Times, through its standard acquisition statement which read Apple “buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”
The stealthy Seattle-based cloud and data networking solutions firm mainly focused on “enabling the next generation of networking for cloud computing and software defined datacenters.”
The startup had raised $1.85 million from Madrona Venture Group, Greylock, and Divergent Ventures in July 2013.
As part of the acquisition deal, Apple has already hired seven out of nine Union Bay Networks employees who are currently working at an undisclosed office location in the city.
The Cupertino has also recently posted two new software engineering job openings located in Seattle, both of which focuses on core infrastructure services designing and development as well as iCloud.
The exact location of Apple’s Seattle office still remains undisclosed.
