Apple has been slapped with a class-action lawsuit over graphic issues found in the 2011 MacBook Pro.
The lawsuit filed by firm of Whitfield, Bryson & Mason LLP in a California federal court on October 24 claims that the Cupertino failed to resolve a graphics issue with its 2011 MacBook Pro laptops, which resulted in “random bouts of graphical distortion, system instability, and system failures.”
“Our firm recently filed a class-action lawsuit in a California federal court against Apple, Inc. on behalf of residents in the States of California and Florida who purchased 2011 MacBook Pro Laptops with AMD GPUs who experienced graphical distortions and system failures,” noted the law firm.
Both 15” and 17” MacBook Pro Models sold in 2011 were found to experience consistent graphics card-related issues as the lead-free solder used in the manufacturing process caused short circuiting and led to display distortion and system failures. Affected customers claimed they had to pay somewhere between $350 and $600 to fix the issues with the graphics chip.
The complaint alleges that Apple ignored the claims of the thousands of affected customers and refused requests to reimburse consumers for repairs paid by them.
The class-action lawsuit was filed after thousands of customers took their complaints to social networks, including Facebook and Twitter, and on YouTube, in addition to Apple’s own support forums where a thread on the matter has already surpassed 9,300 responses and over 1.7 million views. A change.org petition seeking relief from Apple has also exceeded 20,000 signatures.
Apple is yet to comment on the matter.
