Apple has released iOS 8.1 update to all its customers with features including Apple Pay (only for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus), Camera Roll, iCloud Photo Library beta, and more.
The Apple Pay mobile payment service launched alongside iOS 8.1 will allow owners of iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 3 to pay within the apps by simply swiping their finger on Touch ID.
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus owners have an added advantage with their phones as they will be able to use their phones to tap card readers to pay for goods. Both the phones use the combination of secure chip and NFC connectivity to connect with the retail terminals. Integrating the Passbook feature Apple Pay allows you to store debit and credit cards.
Apple Pay service is currently available in US and is expected to be rolled out by next year to other countries. Last week the Cupertino giant announced that it tied up with 500 banks for its Pay service More than 220,000 stores in the US will accept the contactless payments, including Nike, Mc Donalds, Office Depot, and many more. Airbnb, Uber, and Groupon are among the many supporting Apple Pay within apps at launch.
The iOS 8.1 update is now available for download, and is available for the iPhone 4S and later models, the iPad 2 and later models, the fifth-generation iPod touch, and the third-generation Apple TV.
Apple also introduced the Camera Roll feature that lets users see their recent images; it was first introduced in iOS7. On the other hand the iCloud Photo Library service lets users store or backup all their photos across their iCloud-enabled devices.
Continuity feature in iOS 8.1 allow users to send and receive SMS via iPad tablets and Mac computers. This is useful to reach out friends who are not using iMessage.
iOS 8.1 also brings instant hotspot feature , it allows iPads or Macs connect to an iPhone personal hotspot automatically when Wi-Fi is not in range. Beside the new features in the iOS 8.1 update brings several bug fixes.
