Spotify on Monday announced a new ‘family’ plan that will allow up to five members of a family to jointly subscribe to the music steaming service’s premium offering at almost half the price.
As per the new plan, Spotify Premium subscription users can add up to four family members to their account, for half the price of a standard Premium subscription, which costs £9.99 in the UK.
In UK, adding one person to an already existing Premium service account will cost £14.99 per month. The same will cost £19.99, £24.99 and £29.99 for adding the second, third and fourth family member respectively.
Spotify ‘Family’ plan will cost $14.99 for two users, $19.99 for three, $24.99 for four and $29.99 for five.
Although offered at a discounted price, the new family plan will offer all the features of a premium subscription including offline support and no ads while allowing each family member to have their own separate listening histories, recommendations, and playlists.
Ken Parks, chief content officer at Spotify, said in a statement that a family plan was “one of the most asked for features from our audience.”
“With today’s announcement we’re making it easier than ever for the whole family to experience Spotify Premium on their phones, at home, and on the go,” Parks added.
Spotify didn’t mention an exact release date for the feature, but confirmed that the feature would arrive in the UK “within the next few weeks.”
