Opera on Tuesday announced Opera Mini is the first web browser for Samsung’s Tizen-based wearable device, Gear S.
Opera Mini’s finger-friendly features will let Gear S users browse web on the watch’s small 2-inch curved Super AMOLED display. Opera Mini, known for its compression technology that shrinks the size of webpages to as little as 10 percent, promises faster and more energy-efficient browsing experience.
The browser’s Smart Page feature will notify users of all social updates as well as latest news on the same screen. The Speed Dial feature will let Gear S users get to their favorite sites in just a quick single tap. The browser also supports a private mode that removes any trace of the web pages visited on the device.
Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera Software, said Opera, a lightweight but powerful browser maker, has been a pioneer of making the web accessible across a huge variety of connected devices, such as the internet keyboard, the dual-screen handheld game console, VOIP phones and now wearable device.
Boilesen said the company is quite thrilled that Opera Mini will be the first browser for Samsung Gear S users to download. This will surely be an exciting, new experience for smart-gear users, he added.
The Opera Mini web browser will be available for download from Samsung Gear Apps store for free.
