Apple iPhone fans in China will finally be able to get their hands on the latest iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices by next month, as the Chinese regulators have given a thumbs up for the smartphone launch.
The Cupertino on Tuesday announced that the 2 new iPhone 6 variants will be launched in China on October 17 with pre-orders for the devices to begin on October 10. The handsets will be offered on 3 of China’s wireless carriers including China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom 4G networks.
“We are thrilled to bring iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus to our customers in China on all three carriers at launch,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook, adding that the customers will have access to high-speed mobile networks from the carriers with support for TD-LTE and FDD-LTE.
The much awaited launch announcement comes after the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) granted an approval to Apple to market its new smartphones in China following “rigorous security testing” that addressed potential data security risks related to the operating system’s diagnostic tools.
The cheapest 16GB iPhone 6 variant will be launched in China with a suggested retail price of 5,288 yuan, while the 128GB iPhone 6 Plus handset will sail with a hefty price tag of 7,799 yuan.
Apple sold a whopping 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units in the first weekend of their launch. Analysts expect the handsets to do well in China as well, where people prefer larger screens phones more.
