Following the rollout of iOS 8, which Apple claimed as the biggest launch ever after the App Store launch, several reports have mushroomed saying that older devices such as the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 run sluggish on the newest OS.
The sluggishness is mostly due to the lower grade A5 chip used on these devices and the high capability required to keep up with the improvised features introduced in iOS 8. Moreover, the iPhone 4S doesn’t have an LTE connectivity and a Touch ID. It offers 802.11n Wi-Fi support with 2.4Ghz.
Although Apple has done away with AirDrop and Handoff for apps on the iOS 8 version for iPhone 4S, the performance seems sluggish as the OS is stripped of the Metal Graphics API and 64-bit ARMv8 apps which directly impact the overall app performance and animations, according to reports.
As the iOS 8 version is made for bigger screens, it leaves an even smaller space for chat windows and mails hindering the free experience that it is supposed to give. As a result, the app screens are likely cluttered and there is not enough space to type mails comfortably on the iPhone 4S with a 3.5-inch screen.
Although industry critics have shared such comments about the performance of iPhone 4S running iOS 8, other reports say that as per the general comments on the internet the devices do not run too sluggishly to ruin the experience and so the performance is not affected much.
