Late last week, screen shots of Microsoft’s next generation operating system Windows 9 aka Threshold were leaked and building on them are fresh rumours suggesting that Cortana will be included in the OS.
WinFuture, a German blog, managed to get its hands on a version of the Windows 9 currently in the works and leaked a set of images of the new features included in it.
The leaks indicate that just like how Google Now is closely integrated with the Chrome environment, Cortana will also be integrated with the desktop OS to give users the best of Microsoft’s capabilities. Apple is still sticking to the idea of having a personal assistant only for its smartphones.
There has been no mention about whether or not Cortana will wholly replace the search feature of the OS. Windows 9 is also said to come with a Start button which was missed in Windows 8, and users will have to customize their version depending on their preference to have a Start button or a Start page.

There are also other features from Windows 8 and Windows Phone environments brought into Windows 9 including a notification center that constantly notifies users of the ongoing activities, Storage Sense, Wi-Fi Sense, and more.
It is also said that Cortana will also answer questions and perform functions for which the user types in the query or instruction as it is for a PC.

The OS is also said to give users the ability to create multiple virtual desktops for use at different occasions like one for work, entertainment and family.
The apps on the different desktops can be accessed from the main screen and navigated from the task bar. It is also said that users will be able to customize the Start menu with a combination of live tiles and list of apps according to their preferences.
