Users will now be able to wipe off U2’s ‘Songs of Innocence’ album from their music library – thanks to a new tool that Apple has released recently. The removal tool follows complaints in social media that the songs were unwanted one and occupied too much disk space.
Earlier, users were piqued when the album title ‘Songs of Innocence’ began to download into their phones without specifically asking for it. There was no known way to getting rid of the album till now. Half a billion people around the world have iTunes in their phones, it is known.
Giving relief to iPhone users, an Apple statement said, “If you would like U2’s ‘Songs of Innocence’ removed from your iTunes music library and iTunes purchases, you can choose to have it removed,” but cautioned users by adding that they cannot have it back without a purchase next time.
Apple users can delete the album with the following process – visit the website http://itunes.com/soi-remove, click on the remove button, sign in with Apple ID and password and confirm the removal. If the album was downloaded to Mac or PC, the only way to remove is manually.
It was also reported in The New York Times that Apple paid a hefty $100 million for releasing U2’s album through iTunes and that it also has bigger plans for the future. It is believed that nearly 33 million people have listened to the music which Apple calls an experience.
The decision to provide a tool for removing the album from users’ iPhones, it is generally believed, is a damage control exercise long due.
