Right after the much awaited iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch launch, Apple has announced new affordable iCloud storage pricing plans for users on its website.
As per the new revised plans, every user will get 5GB storage space on iCloud for free like before. However, those opting for 20GB of storage space will have to pay $0.99/month, while the other 3 storage plans offering 200GB, 500GB and 1TB of storage space will now cost $3.99, $9.99 and $19.99 per month respectively as against the previous plans which cost $20 per year for 10GB, $40 per year for 20GB and $100 per year for 50GB.
UK iCloud users can now avail 20GB storage space for £0.79 a month, 200GB for £2.99, 500GB for £6.99, and 1TB for £14.99.
Despite the new revised pricing plans, Apple iCloud is still more expensive than its rivals Google and Microsoft. While Google Drive offers 15GB of free storage and charges $9.99 per month for 1TB, Microsoft’s OneDrive also offers 15GB of storage space for free and charges $2.50 per user per month for 1TB.
The announcement comes just ahead of iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite launch that will see the official debut of Cupertino’s new cloud storage initiative iCloud Drive. The soon-to-be-launched iCloud Drive will allow users to access and edit presentations, spreadsheets, PDFs and images from a Mac, PC or any other device associated with their iCloud account. The new Drive is expected to get launched as part of iOS 8 on September 17.
