Having played in the field for over 10 years, Google’s services for businesses – Google Enterprises – is rebranded as Google for Work in an effort to expand its horizons.
Effective immediately, Google Enterprises will henceforth be known as Google for Work. With this change, Google Enterprise division President Amit Singh, hopes that people will have the right perception about the kind of services that are offered under Google for Work plans.
He said that people associate large companies with a big budget and a dedicated IT team when they hear the word ‘Enterprise’ and hence it was decided that rebranding it to ‘Google for Work’ will let people know that anyone who wants to use Google’s services for their work will find what they are looking for.
As part of the rebranding, each service offered for business customers such as Gmail, Drive etc., will have the ‘for work’ suffix.
Google’s services including the enterprise versions are currently being used by more than 5 million businesses, with 60 percent of Fortune 500 companies, according to Singh. Google’s revenue from sales in the last quarter is $16 billion and other revenue including income from Google Play Store amounted to $1.6 billion.
The team handling the business services which begun with a small team of 25 individuals now employs thousands of workers despite some of the initial plans dismissed by the then chairman Eric Schmidt.
