Google is likely gearing up for its next launch event scheduled for Monday, September 15, at 12AM in India, as it is sending out invites teasing “an exciting new announcement.”
While Google hasn’t specified what awaits launch, the invite, which promises for “more details closer to the date,” hints at the launch of “Android One.”
Android One will be used by its Indian hardware partners Micromax, Spice, Karbonn, Intex and Celkon.
The launch of Android One is Google’s attempts to regain control in the entry-level segment providing an excellent customer experience.
In June, Google announced its tie up with Micromax, Karbonn and Spice to develop sub-$100 (Rs 6000) smartphones, with some of the initial devices slated to hit the markets in September.
Google is likely expecting the increase the user base of its Android platform with its new Android One version.
According to the reports, the Indian hardware manufacturers are said to price their handsets anything between Rs 7,000 and Rs 10,000. However, this price slab is actually higher than the initially expected sub-$100 (Rs 6,000) tag.
Sources involved in the developing of the smartphones claimed that the price to be costlier than the initially planned sub-$100, as Google intends to offer better features and apps.
