While the September 9 event being the talk of Apple evangelists, a video of the Spaceship campus as described by Steve Jobs, shot from a drone used as a quad copter, has grabbed the attention of the tech town.
The project was one of the plans made by former co-founder Steve Jobs. The plan for the campus was submitted to the Cupertino City Council in 2011 and the groundwork begun roughly a year ago. The project is expected to be completed and ready for occupancy some time in 2016.
The panoramic view in the video gives a clearer picture of the progress of the project. The video makes it clear that it is a grand scale project with tunnels and the shape of the campus looks like a spaceship exactly as described by Jobs. There is also an elevated ramp in the middle of the main oval.
The video was shot using a GoPro Hero 3+ action camera from an altitude of 400 feet. Chairman of Foster+ Partners, that is developing the project, Norman Foster said during an interview that the building is expected to be spacious enough for 12,000 employees and the floor area will be of 3 million square feet including the circumference of one mile.
The design includes a lot of open space with orchards in the middle with bicycle trails and underground car parking. To make it more environment-friendly, it will largely depend on renewable energy sources and solar panels are also said to be a part of the energy plans. While renewable energy sources will be mainly used to power the campus, the company will also use the national grid when it sees the need for it.
