Facebook is said to be testing a search capability for mobile users to search for posts that are shared with them, according to a new report.
The new search feature is likely an extension of the Graph search, introduced last year to help desktop users search for people, pages, groups, etc with particular criteria like the places they live in, visited, etc without having to visit their friends’ profiles. Back in September, Facebook expanded the Graph search beyond profile content to include posts and status updates.
However, Facebook Graph Search has been scaling slowly and has not yet been made available for all desktop users. With the latest move, the company is bringing the search feature to mobile users.
Users can find posts using keywords to search for in comments, photo captions, posts, places, interests, etc of the user’s friends. Facebook will index people’s information like their pictures, places visited and so on in order to provide the search results.
The new search seems to improve the efficiency of Facebook’s Graph search. However, users can control who would be the audience of their previous posts, with the privacy settings in the social networking site. The search results would pull up only posts and content that are shared with them.
